I to bought an elephant nose (also being called a dolphin)because it was a cool looking fish. It almost starved to death... I was uninformed and the pet store owner was no help. I started feeding the frozed blood worms (you can buy these already sterilized) and it ate just fine. I have it in a 10 gal. tank covered with the filter covered. I also have an algea eater and a black gold fish in the tank. the goldfish and the elephant nose get along well. The elephant nose eats a few blood worms and the goldfish eats the rest. I use one frozen cube each evening. I feed the goldfish flake food in the morning. There are many viriations or breeds of the elephant fish. I have the Mormyrus Tupirus. Each breed has it's own characteristics as in any animal. Find a reputable dealer. Alot of dealers are breeding grounds for disease. Scope out the store at different times daily and look for dead fish in the tank. You will be amazed.
