Hi, I just want to add s.t. to Kalyani's reply.
The easiest way to differentiate a male from a female is by looking at the fins below their belly. Male mollies have a pointy-shape fin, while the female have a fan-like fin. Sorry for the 'unsophsticated' description.

Male mollies arent always larger than the female, but to breed them, you need the female to be larger than the male.
The proportion doent necessarily need to be 1 male to 5 females, but it's always better to have more female than male. I had 2 males & 1 female black mollies, yet the female did get pregnant. But I guess I was just lucky.

The gestation period takes about 1 mth.
The live bearer trap that you bought, is that a breeding net that you can put in the aquarium? If yes, put the female in there when her belly looks huge. Make sure you put lots of (real) plants in the net for the fry to hide, because adult mollies eat their fry.
During this period, dont clean the tank or change the water.

Hope that helps.

Grace
