Well, since my friends here like you, I will be more than happy to explain. There are four types of legendary canines- the Lei'Rue (the wolves), Aya'Rei (the foxes), Kal'Ran (the hounds), and the Mai'Rua (the shells).

Lei'Rue usually travel in packs of up to twenty. They are very large, very powerful wolf-like creatures that represent strength. They have long wings that will either be feathered or dragon-like, depending on where it was born.

Aya'Rei represent change and energy. They travel in colonies of as many as one hundred, or as few as two. They never travel alone without reason. They appear as foxes with between one and ten tails, and 'retractable' wings on their backs that allow them easy access to the sky as well as small areas.

The Kal'Ran are the hounds. They represent loyalty and pride, and can take the form of any domestic dog. They don't fly physically, but they can swim underwater for as long as they wish without fear of drowning. They generally travel with just one person from another species.

Mai'Rua are shells. They appear as humans, elves, demons, saharians, and so on and so forth. They represent deceit and lies, but in a good way. When they age, they slowly turn into coyotes and jackals, only if they have led a good life. When such a legendary canine is discovered, they are symbolic of good fortune. You will never see one if you tell too many lies. They only appear before people with clean hearts.

The four types came about because of mortal desires, but all of them originated from a different world. They can appear in any color depending on the actual canine, and they all have very powerful and brave hearts. It rarely happens that somebody appears who is a were with one of them- usually what happens is that you were meant to be a Lei'Rue, but somehow ended up in a Drow's body. the other alternative is that one was injured by a drow, and inacted its curse upon the first victim it saw- which would have been you.
