A GIRL aged seven has married a dog in a bid to save herself and her family from an "evil eye" curse.

Shivam Munda, from eastern India, grew upper teeth before her lower teeth appeared. This is considered a bad omen by members of the Santhal ethnic group to which she belongs.

Kundan Munda, a coal mine worker, said his daughter married the dog only to "remove the evil eye," - a belief that some misfortune would befall her and the family.

He insisted she would be free to marry marry a man later.
