Welcome, fellow gun enthusiasts! This forum is dedicated to everything and anything about the LeMat revolver, the most powerful revolver made during the American Civil War. With 9 .44 shots in the cylinder, plus a tremendous 20 gauge shotgun barrel under the main barrel, this weapon is the "assault pistol of it's day".
One interesting thing, the LeMat is not general issue, they are smuggled in through the Union blockade and sold to the Confederate Army. This gun is used ONLY by Southern troops. This forum is inspired by the movie "Cold Mountain", in which the hero who is trying to return home from the battlefield near the end of the war is armed with a LeMat. In the Battle of Petersburg, portrayed with frightening accuracy at the beginning of the movie, he uses the weapon with dreadful effect during the vicious fighting in the crater. The gun is also used to save an innocent life near the middle of the movie.
Please feel welcome to post anything related to the final years of the War Between the States, and most importantly, the LeMat revolver. After all, history is to be preserved, learned, and respected.
