Author: Officer Torch
Subject: Coming Soon?

I came across this just by chance on IMDb, maybe for our FG, BR, Star War oriented fans. It's based, probably loosely, on an Edgar Rice Burroughs work pushing a hundred years old! John Carter...a civil war soldier somehow wakes up on Mars, and has adventures with giants and more. It was a popular story by ERB long ago. Think its been Disney-ized, computerized, and sanitized...but looks of interest, especially on a nice silver screen with all the trimmings.

Seems like an Avatar type movie thing, and may be moreso for the younger crowd, but trailer on IMDb looked interesting. Check it out. Supposedly to release in USA March of 2012. There is a pulp re John Carter, the Warlord of Mars. See some on this on site here in a Heros comic link (The Holloway Pages). Any comments?

I had not heard of this until Officer Torch's post here.

It looks to be based (probably loosely, as Torch states) on Edgar Rice Burroughs Barsoom (aka Mars) series.

Burroughs first Barsoom story was published in 1912 and the first novel, A Princess of Mars, in 1917.

The late astronomer Carl Sagan spoke fondly of reading the Burroughs Barsoom tales as a child in his epic series Cosmos (1980).
