My answer is C, Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940) for its overall production values and music score. It has a more sophisticated, "modern" tone to it than the two preceding serials did.

But for colorful characters and a lovely leading lady I would go with Flash Gordon (1936) and Jean Rogers as Dale Arden.

And not to diminish Trip to Mars (1938), as I would say Queen Azura (Beatrice Roberts) was pretty elegant, while the Clay People were not!

I pretty much agree with Sergeant Tim. He has learned the serial material well, and according to Emperor Ming, will be royally rewarded. Upon visiting the Emperor's Imperial Palace on Mongo, the guard will present him with a 100 Mingol gift card good at Ming's Ye Olde Souvenir Gift Shoppe located below the Arena. The card is good for select items and most small size bobble head figures. (Enemies of Ming characters not included and other restrictions apply.)

A comment...subjective in nature. I must hurry though since wife Zona is nearby. (Unknown to many, we dated after the underwater city surfaced and subsequently married at a small ceremony on the 13th stroke of the gong some time ago.) I digress. In my opinion, while Jean Rogers was a lovely leading lady, I'd say Carol Hughes was also quite a lovely leading lady in the 1940 serial, and lets not forget Anne Gwynne in her supporting role. Actually, many lovelies were in all three serials.
