Subject: Treacherous moments with Tarnak and Zandar

Torch,

Did these two ever cause you any upsets while on patrol? Perhaps you can document their exploits on Mars?

Yes...I have some issues concerning those two. First off, I believe they are perhaps earthlings, or maybe time and/or planetary space traveling spies. They both appeared in an earlier so-called serial on earth (picked up by our televisor receptors)entitled "The Phantom Empire"..a story about an underground city called Murania ruled by a Queen Tika. Both guys were trouble makers then, Tarnak was called Argo..a rebellious prime minister, and Zandar there was Rab, a mad scientist with death-dealing inventions, including the death ray machine. Actually, these two men were for the most part responsible for the destruction of Murania!

A few short years later, they somehow are "Martians" and left and right hand men to Ming, somehow on Mars (from Mongo) sans any of his staff, except for these two, now called Tarnak and Zandar. They are, or so it seems, loyal only to Ming! We're led to believe they are Martians, but I wonder about this. They listen to Queen Azura politely, but their loyalty seems to be with Ming! It is a little sketchy how Ming alone wound up on Mars, also the hows and whys of "Tarnak" and "Zandar." (It has been reported that these two men have been spotted elsewhere in serials, in space and time. They seem to be trouble makers.)

Sometimes, its reported, there's friction between these two, eg, Zandar passed a raygun to Ming sitting in what was Azura's throne on Mars...why did Tarnak not do this!? But, it was Tarnak who escorted Ming from the chamber behind that throne when Ming attempted to drag Flash Gordon into the chamber...FG was in a scuffle with Zandar while this exit of Ming with Tarnak took place.

Then, there is Tarnak bellyaching to FG that Ming is mad and wants to destroy Earth (and possibly Mars?) using the full power of the nitron lamp. In the end, Tarnak places Ming in the disintegrating room. (But, Ming apparently re-appears in a later serial on Mongo in the earth year 1940.) So, really, who is this Tarnak? What side is he on? Where is he from? Is he a quadruple agent? Many alias' involved, and possibly Zandar also. I will get to the bottom of this some day...any feedback from citizens of Mongo, Mars, Earth, Saturn even (since he was Patten in Killer Kane's squadron from earth) would be helpful.
