I was there on opening day and it was the most incredible film I ever saw.

An American film classic that some contend is superior to its 1977 predecessor. That is a matter of personal taste, but the sequel is certainly the darker of the two, and also includes one of the greatest story surprises in the history of motion pictures.

I kind of agree with Sgt. Tim....about personal taste, and that '80 SW sequel certainly darker than '77. Saw the 3 SW in a nice theater, but lines were long for weeks! Saw 'em when crowds eased. (Commander Rick was fortunate to attend a premier.) Think I enjoyed first one ('77) the best. Who can forget that opener with the huge spaceship, the adventure, character intros and those passes thru the canyons of the death star by Luke and friends. There was also a lot of Flash Gordon-ish good guy/bad guy stuff and concepts.

The second had a great action opener, and the revelation later that Vader was Luke's father. (A bit of humor...1983s Easy Money with Rodney Dangerfield comes to mind when Julio asks: "Can I call you..Dad?") I digress. The Yoda part was boring to me, and though Frank Oz was masterful with voice, Yoda reminded me of Grover from Sesame Street, perhaps more for youngsters, but there's nothing wrong with that. The cloud city was good, action sequences and of course, the Vader/Luke fight was great, and family secret revelation.

Didn't much care for for the next SW...those little gremlin type characters seemed to take away from the maturity of the trilogy. Well, to each his/her own. They were all really entertaining classics. I'm not a big SW fan, but gotta say this certainly gave Science Fiction movies a great boost. There were others, but seems this became iconic.
