Answers, including comments/speculation on above Quiz

1) Queen Fria of Frigia (in A.R. comic strip) also had cinnamon bun like hairdo swirls at the sides (like Princess Leia).

2) Star Trek Voyager, episode #106 "Bride of Chaotica"...check link> Janet's Star Trek Voyager. Specifically, spaceship exterior comparison section, and rocketship under Diagrams and Drawings. (Capt. Proton)

3) Likely several, but I'd say theme from 1933 novel When Worlds Collide influenced Alex Raymond's FG quite a bit. (It also became early 50s movie.) Star Wars of 1977 certainly was influenced by Flash Gordon. (Other works also likely influenced Star Wars.) We're told George Lucas hoped for a remake of FG based on the 1936 serial, but licensing issues were involved.

4) Not "I Love Lucy" (heh, heh...gotcha!) But..yes, if you said "The Lucy Show." Gale Gordon played Mr. Ted Mooney, the banker...but he might be more familiar as Principal Conklin in "Our Miss Brooks." He played many parts, and he was also the first voice of Flash Gordon, on radio in 1935! (Often available in MP3 format nowadays.)

5) In 1995, the U.S. Postal Service issued a sheet of classic comic commemorative stamps. One stamp was from an Alex Raymond's 8/28/38 strip. The colorful stamp showed Ming's general Lin-Chu in full uniform, facing a spaceophone (televisor) with a round screen showing Flash Gordon. (Essentially, the two were arranging for a meeting since Ming had been captured.)

6) Comments and Speculation: the 1980 movie had an international cast, various accents, peoples, a basically fun-entertaining movie-seemingly with stereotyping downplayed. (We were entering a new decade, the world was different.) Tao, a philosophy-religion, (Taoism, founded by Lao-tzu, 6th Century BC) was apparently not mentioned in the movie...instead, Ming refers to a Dizan (or is it Dyzan or Daizan??)..in any case, IMDb in it's trivia section on 1980 FG movie, says Ming calls on Daizan..great cruelty in Japanese according to the note.

3.) Lucas stated he wanted to remake FG 1940 in an interview I have. Still, he got some other root origins from the serials made before it, too.

Torch, excellent quiz! Also of note, George Lucas gave credit to the Clay People when he was making Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones ( 2002 ).
