A few moments that stand out in my mind are:

1)After Azura had a private meeting with FG she announces that she has "...other plans" for him. I wonder what they were but I can think of at least a few. Throughout the serial she expresses her admiration for him on several occasions.

2)I remember as a kid watching in horror as Azura, enraged at a worker reported to have threatend to blow up the Nitron magazine, transformed him into a Clay Man.

Azura was great in her imperious ways, almost as ruthless as our beloved Ming.

A few more:

a)Though subtle, Azura renders what appears to be a surprised look, including a few from her guards, when Ming walks through the flames to turn off a broken fire box.

b)FG and friends are on televisor while Azura tells Ming they're in Forest Kingdom, home of the Fire People...the most savage people on Mars. Azura uses her magic to destroy idol of Kalu at shrine Hapgood is trying to photograph.

c)Azura marches to her throne and 3 alien-ish looking characters (similar to those at beginning who rode light beam to earth) await her audience..but step away when Azura indicated she'd first like to hear from her Captain of the Guard about FG. Soon, FG is brought to the Queen, they chat alone, and both subsequently see Ming where Azura sees Ming has the desired black sapphire.

d)Azura was being taken by FG and friends to the clay caves to remove the curse. She left the shelter of the rocks and was hit by a blast from the bomber squadron. Among her final words to Flash, she couldn't believe this happened by her own people...FG told her it was Ming who tried to turn the Martians against her. In her final moments, she gave Flash the white sapphire and told him to go so as not to be captured by bomber squadron crews landing.

As our beloved but fiendish Officer Torch (who, from his accent, was no doubt recruited on a street corner in Brooklyn) pointed out, Azura did the right thing at the end. Her complete about face served to redeem her in my eyes.

A memorable scene in chapter one is right after Ming contains the firebox and walks up to a startled Azura, Tarnak and Zandar

Azura: "How long do you propose to keep the beam burning?"

Ming: "Until I have taken all the Nitron from the Earth's atmosphere." ( devilisly spoken ).

Azura: "And destroy everything on it?"

Ming: "Why not? An Earthman named Zarkov and his friend Flash Gordon once dared to pitt themselves against me. Now let us see them save the Earth if they can."
