FG '36 Tournament of Death. Prior to this event, FG, Barin, Thun and others are shovelling radium into Vultan's atom furnace to keep the Sky City afloat and stable. Zarkov rigs FGs shovel to cause an explosion when shovel is thrown into furnace. This creates an unstable situation, and Zarkov indicates he can save the city using a new ray. Zarkov wants freedom for his friends. Vultan agrees, the city is eventually stabilized, but Ming indicates his right for a Tournament of Death.

The participants of the sword fight include FG and another....a hooded man, who, when unmasked by FG turns out to be Barin, much different looking in his attire compared to his Roman centurion like garb usually worn. Barin has (to me anyway) some iffy kind of explanation for fighting for Ming, saying he was forced into it. Well, FG won...but wait, there's more! Now FG must battle the orangopoid, a single horned gorilla of sorts. Flash wins, with some info from Aura. Ming eventually leaves, allowing FG to marry the woman of his choice...and soon it is revealed by Barin that he loves Aura. So, we've some action, love triangles, and assorted interesting events in Chapter 8 and thereabout.

I've always liked Barin's arrival in "Mars"; despite it being somewhat (well, VERY!) undignified, the joy that Flash's party exhibits tells it all.

The already-mentioned Tournament of Death is, of course, a high spot, somewhat confusing at first but understandable in a way. Another good scene is when Flash and Barin, old friends, are sitting around drinking wine not knowing that the crafty High Priest has drugged them.
