Charles Middleton has a most impressive Filmography listing. (Check IMDb.) He was in many films often playing a dour, straight faced, stern/strict, less than pleasant character...though some where he played more neutral and nicer parts. My understanding was that in reality, he was a nice fellow. You'd never guess that with his famous portrayal of evil Ming in the Flash Gordon trilogy.

Barin mentioned this before, I'll remention it...C.M. can often be spotted on an oldie on the TCM channel, on PBS showings, and elsewhere. He's in films..other serials, movies, of all sorts. You might not recognize him! I missed him several times viewing some vintage films. I understand he's even in Duck Soup! Go check that IMDb list. You may have movies in your collection with Charles Middleton in them! Several times, they are uncredited roles, and brief.

I myself like the Commandant he played in the Laurel and Hardy films...one was in the Flying Deuces, another in a film short. But he was good. In the film world though, I think he was remembered mostly for his role as Ming...an unforgetable main character.

Ming was his favorite role in film. He was one of the greatest stage actors who graced the earth and he will always be remembered warmly by us all. A gentle and jolly man, with a good sense of humor, as his grandson Burr describes him. He liked to give the little kids lemon drop candies.
