Hi Tim..glad you're enjoying the '36 FG serial. Vultan is certainly a favorite with fans. One of my favorite parts is where Ming pays a visit to the sky city. Vultan says he would have prepared a banquet had he known Emperor Ming was going to visit, to which Ming replies...I do not dine with unruly subjects.

Tim..sales pitch heading your way now. Some of us, eg, Rick, Barin, myself, many others have been interested, sometimes on and off, in this "stuff" for decades. We're lifers in a way. Many favor the serial trilogy (1936,38, and 40), some like the 1980 movie, which is moreso of a fun thing (It's now again available on DVD called Flash Gordon...Savior of the Universe.) Of course, there were the classic Alex Raymond comics which started it all, now available as reprints, also an early radio show. There was a TV cartoon series around 1979-80. The 1st season was pretty good. Other FG stuff also around. Latest offering on SCI-FI channel wasn't too popular here it seems. There's on/off talk of a movie in the future.

Our friends in the UK and elsewhere are also great fans of Flash Gordon, his friends, and foes. Interestingly, in the serial trilogy, some say Ming (played by Charles Middleton) was the more important character!?! Dunno, maybe.
This stuff is/becomes addictive Tim...stick with it. Likely you'll note parallels in the music also with Universal films. Oh.. do roam around the links on Rick's site here...great stuff. Any questions, you've got some heavies here to ask, yak.

Flash Gordon is even mentioned by our friends at NASA. Numerous films were based on the Flash Gordon themes. Many of us favor the serial trilogy and are (still) hooked on the music which was utilized.

Regards aka Officer Torch

PS Want to catch a really boisterous Vultan? See the 1980 movie version with Vultan played by Brian Blessed.

Thanks for the great infomation, Officer Torch. I can certainly see how FG can be addictive. After watching the first three chapters of FG '36 two times through, I felt I was pretty well hooked!

I saw the 1980 movie on cable television several months after its theatrical release, but haven't seen it since. I do remember the unmistakable music of Freddie Mercury and Queen on the soundtrack.

I do indeed have at least three heavies here (Rick, Prince Barin, Officer Torch) to guide me should I have any questions about the FG universe.

Tim

While I may be "heavy" in the loyalty to Flash area, my girth is no impediment to my assisting our noble leader.

FG has been a part of me since age 7 when I first saw him on Buster Crabbe's own TV show (!!) when I was, well, younger in New York in 1952. Oh, to have had a VCR in those years.

Now in my mature years, I find myself still in combat with crafty Officer Torch and other minions of our evil but beloved Ming. It may be more than 70 years since some of our interplanetary ventures but I review them from time to time on my portable DVD player while shopping, at weddings and funerals, during IRS audits, etc. It's always a good time to watch FG!
