Subject: Beatrice Roberts info

I recently found out that Beatrice Roberts was married in 1919 to Robert L. Ripley-yes,from Ripley's believe it or not. I do
not know how long they were married but will scour the library books and try to get some more information on it and any other info that might add to what little is already known.

Hi Moses,

Go ahead and check it out, there could be more details involved. As for her birth certificate, it would most likely be housed at the records office in Manhattan, NY.

That was her place of birth in 1905. The death certificate would most likely be in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where she died years later ( cause and year unknown ).

I have the Ripley marriage information on the main Trip to Mars page, from 1919 through 1926, concluding with a divorce, for awhile now.

That saves me a bit of digging on the conclusion of her marriage to Ripley. I will be going back to NYC near the end of the month-and I will be working down on Canal Street in Manhattan so making a trip over the the Courthouse will be easy to do.I can probably get a copy of the information on her for a few bucks.

Thank you, Moses. The document should be at the office in town. Bea was Miss Manhattan. She was Mayer's mistress at MGM from 1935-37. He dumped her and she signed a contract at Universal that year. She'd spend the next 11 years there, working in mainly uncredited roles.

The last two films she worked, were filmed in 1948 ( Criss-Cross & Family Honeymoon, released the next year ) and she then left the business and went back to Plymouth. I'd imagine she spent time in NY visting some old pals occasionally.

I learned a good deal of this from Ann Gwynne's son, Greg Gilford and from the Miss America Beauty Pageant listings. There was one other gentleman who had sucessfully tracked her birth and death stats in general ( albeit he came up short on cause and year ) who I am grateful to.

Birthname: Alice Beatrice Roberts.

Last name of Roberts is Jewish, very common for a NY lady. It's in her face.

Considering what a large part Miss Roberts had in "Mars", it's unfortunate that we know so little about her. I'm grateful to all of you for the research that's been posted here.

I've been in New York for awhile now but due to working 18 hour days here I have been unable to get enough of a break to be able to do anything at all including myself. First day I get off I will make the trip to the offices here and get the records for Beatrice.Sure wish I could find a source for some one who could fill in the blanks on Jean Rogers. No luck on finding her place of burial and any other information other than the common stuff that is already general knowledge. If any of the stars from the era were in our present day there would be no trouble obtaining information on them.Alot of the celebs from then have gone on to dissappear into obscurity.
