Subject: Review of Bela Lugosi's Dracula 75th Anniversary edition

Another nice 1 hr.15min movie that inspired many other Dracula horror tales starting with this 1931 original up towards today's modern Frankenstein/Dracula horror movies and others.

Once again, good sound, but not as action packed(for me anyway)as the original Frankenstein Universal 1931 with Boris Karloff.

Bela Lugosi didn't speak any English according to reports and this original movie was a rare for it's time as it was made in two different language versions....English and Spanish! The Spanish version is on Disc 2,which bye the way also has a neato' documentary detailing the making of the most memorable monster films of all time!

Disc 1 has a profile of Lugosi as 'The Dark Prince'
A nice interactive pop-up facts about the making of this movie that can be read watching the Dracula movie,a documentary about the making of the film, and a host of commentaries by noted film/movie historians.

In the movie, old Dracula has 3 girlfriends or wives it appears and really gets excited over the blood on the fingers of a house guest who accidently cuts his finger on a paperclip with some kind of deed to either Dracula's current estate or some property over in London ,England.

Dracula, who goes by Count Dracula, does move with much more ease thru society than poor old Frankenstein, though, LOL,as he does have several society friends who suddendly fear him after they discover he is a Vampire from Transervania(sp)and now want to kill him as one of them is some kinda' Vampire expert who tells them the only way to accomplish this is to drive a steak or knive type weapon into him.

The story uses another character similar to Dr.Frankenstein's assistant Fritz, but i forgot his name.He is kinda goofy looking, but not as nearly scary as Fritz.

A good movie, imho.not quite as dramatic as Frankenstin with Boris Karloff, but a very important film that heavily influenced future monster/horror movie productions past 1931 and leading up to today.A keepsake for a monter movie historian and purist to have for his/her collection. Both Frankenstein and Dracula productions by Universal Legacy of 1931.

Thanks Rick,

I ran ragged all over town(or rather my metro area)and couldn't find that Frankenstein vs.the Wolfman dvd.I guess i'll have to resort to amazon. Most of the video stores don't seem to carry those great old classics as all the horror movies i seen were the new age ones.

Bestbuy didn't even have them and a employee checked their stores website for me and they didn't carry any of them except the two newly released Frankenstein/Dracula Universal dvds.

The Frankenstein and Dracula Universal Legacy are about the only originals i seen on the racks today after work at any video store!

His son Bela Jr was LA lawyer for many years. May still be.
