Prince Barin's posting has piqued my interest. I too recall some time ago seeing that movie, King of Jazz, perhaps on a PBS or TCM channel, and I was wowed. I recall Paul Whiteman from my early days, and do recall his shows..on early TV. They had a unique, magical flavor...kind of razzle dazzle like if you will with tech stuff moreso than average, or so it seemed. (Those draughts of forgetfulness can distort things over time.)

The King of Jazz, a 1930 musical, had some interesting points...and I vaguely recall some swirling effect. Now I'm fired up and have to do some web surfing or try and buy the movie. I'm finding old Universal movies and others now more readily available, not only on line, but in stores as well! Good for us.

King of Jazz had some interesting points (check IMDb). It was produced by Carl Laemmle, Jr.(familiar name to us) AND the animator was Walter Lantz! I'm sure there are more interesting tidbits. I picked up Howard Hughes Hell Angels recently, remastered...it had fantastic footage, and some two color segments...it's also a 1930 movie, expensively made of course, but still advanced for its time.

Electronics was progressing well in those days, new tubes, circuits, inventions were coming out big time, and might have trickled into homes as appliances were it not for the Depression and WWII. I digress, but, yes...that swirling effect was put to good use, and early!.

Thanks for the memories. Will see what I can muster up.
