In all the Natural Contests you usually see age appropriate makeup allowed. What age is appropariate and who decides this? What if some allow makeup when their child is 13? This is a touchy subject. But for me (and I am not a judge) age appropriate makeup does not look out of place. I would not be surprised to see a 12 year old (sometimes even a little younger, say 10) wearing light makeup if I saw one in a store. But if I were to see a 3,4,5,etc year old wearing makeup at the local market then I would think I would do a double take. LOL! True though... - my opinion on makeup. For natural photos, i would not put my DD if under 10 in makeup, maybe clear mascara. Over 10 I would maybe do a lite base or a cover if there is a blemish and lip gloss.   - This changes everyday and depends on who you ask and what contest you enter. If the contest says no make-up then even clear mascara is not allowed, even if you tell yourself, noone can see it so it is ok. You really need to email the director and ask, since every contest is different. I have also read that some will mark you down, but not tell you that you broke the rule. So I would email and ask.     - I posted that it should show, but if you do cover it all of the time in her daily life, not just for photos. I could see an exception being made. But if you just cover in for photos or pageants. It is hard to say. I know some people cover birthmarks. I just never start of at what age and what message it would send to the child.       - We've (my husband and I) been letting her cover since she started kindergarten because other kids were picking on her about it (about the size of a bean and on her neck) and began to try to scratch it off. We have spoken to her doctor about removing it but he has suggested that for best results we need to wait until her growth levels off until then there's no problem with covering it up on a regular basis.         This is so hard. because I would just say that she could compete with the makeup on her birthmark in natural contests and pageants, but I know that some moms would call foul and that would be a pain for you, your daughter, and the directors. So, I feel you have to look at it as your child just does not qaulify to be in a completely natural system that has a no-make-up rule, because you choose to let her cover up the birthmark. There are plenty of systems and contest that you can enter. This is my opinion, you may disagree and if you do, I think you should atleast notify the director's and ask them to make an exception, not try and get away with it, because that would be embarassing for you and your dd.         OMG that is just silly. The child should be able to cover a birthmark IMO. That is a bit extreme to not even allow a child to cover a birthmark on her neck that makes her feel insecure.
