.... an article in the July 15 edition by Karl Rove, noted long-time Bush II aid and noted Vietnam War draft dodger:
Sirs:
Mr. Rove goes to extremes attempting to justify the invasion of Iraq in 2003. "Everyone" claimed Saddam had WMDs, so, end of discussion.
The tipping point point that stampeded Congress to give President Bush his long-desired war authorization was President Bush's and Condi Rice's use of the terror-inducing imagery of an Iraqi-produced "mushroom cloud" magically appearing over an American city.
There was no Iraqi-built physical infrastructure required to separate uranium isotopes, including those in the 500 tons of mythical yellow cake,which was added to the fright recipe.
Two-thirds of Iraqi airspace was patrolled from 1991 to the invasion by US and allied aircraft. Are we to believe that none had vertical-looking and side-looking cameras aboard? Are we to believe that the nation's satellite-borne imaging systems were not tasked to monitor Iraq for evidence of Saddam's efforts to reconstitute his nuclear weapons program that had been destroyed in 1981 by the Israeli attack on the Osirak facility?
A question that apparently has never been posed by the Senate Intelligence Committee is: where is the overhead imagery showing an Iraqi reconstituted nuclear weapons complex? Where is the overhead imagery showing activities that experienced intelligence analysts can relate to the likely construction of such a complex?

Note: it's likely that Rove was never cleared for more than rumor.
