ok, i'll just breifly tell you my "work day" so you get an idea...
now someone else fed in the morning so i fed in the afternoon. i would take star, fly, cocoa, twister, witch and ride them. now each horse had a different excercise routine. so star just got loped in the arena to keep him tuned up. fly had arena work then 2miles of trails. cocoa was 4miles of trails. twister, lunge line(i'll explain what that is in a minute) then arena work. and finally witch, just arena work. my last horse was holly and i just rode her a little in the arena cause she was old an phil just wanted to keep her in good shape. ok the lunge line is a 60ft leash basically. the horse walks, trots or canters, around you.and you are stand still. i only trotted twister cause he just needed extra warm up time. now after those guys i took out my 4 yearlings(a yearling is a 1yr old horse) and took them to the arena. now everyone has a different training style this just happens to be mine. ok, i tie each yearling to the side of the arena. this will begin to help them learn patience for when they are made to stand tied for long periods at a time at shows. then i take one in at a time. i "sack them out" which is just getting them used to strange objects like plastic bags, etc. i just rub a plastic bag all over their body. then i lay a feed sack filled with sand so that it weighs about 15lbs on their back. this will prepare them for gentling(training to ride) in a year when they turn 2. then i lead each one from horse back. this is called "ponying". then i take each one back to their stalls one at a time. i only take one at a time to get them so they won't be herd bound(attachted toeach other). now its feeding time. each horse is now in thier stalls. the stalls were cleaned by someone else while i was working with them. each horse gets a crtian amount of grain and one "flake" of hay. then i fill up their water buckets and now i am done. i went to work on mondays, tuesdays, fridays and saturdays. there are a gazzilion different saddles for different things but the two main ones are "western" and "english". western is the saddle you see at rodeos. and english is the kind you see people jumping with. ok, i need to go but i'll try and tell you more later.
