Ah, the cricket matches. How I do miss them as well! It was such a pleasure to sit and watch them and not have to schlep all the way over to Van Cort Park. And I particularly miss the old willow on the west bank where I used to sit for many hours, relaxing and enjoying nothing but the sound of the river. There were many different kinds of ducks and fishes back then. I still have a small mpg movie of a spot down at the end of the ball-field stairs that looks like something from a tropical island. That spot too, is gone these days.
Well my friends, I suppose that the only thing we can do now is hope that at least SOME of what we once enjoyed will return. You know, Nature is a wonderful thing. Left to her own devices, she always manages to take back what-ever may have been stolen from her. Let's see what a little time will bring us. After all, as you think of it, those simple-minded fools who managed to rape the river bank had no interest in that area for a good long while. Maybe now that their petty cash has run out, their petty minds will be other-wise entertained and they'll find some other place to pillage.
It doesn't make the current damage any easier to take. But it time, no doubt, the wooden walks will rot... the steel will rust and all will return to what they're little signs said at the beginning (when they actually had the audacity to post their lies): Forever Wild.
