I've been down to The River lately and I have to say that, although it's looking a bit better with the Summer foliage finally coming, I'm truly disappointed in the fact that there was no consideration in creating any "buffer" between The River and the parkway. I've also noticed that, in spite of the paving of the east-bank walk, there's still a great deal of flooding and silting. It's still quite a mess. And then there are the fallen trees. The old willows are splitting and falling on the walks and in the wooded areas and they're not being cleared... they're simply being "moved".
I understand that there is a "team" dedicated to The Bronx River, albeit only 8 people. This isn't a tiny river. It runs from the Westchester border to the South Bronx. EIGHT people certainly can't handle the entire river. Parks must have more money to invest since they've already interfered with the natural order of The River. I wonder why they still can't manage to maintain anything they start. Such is their lot, I suppose.
Meanwhile, it's not so much the "element" that we should focus on. Let's just keep doing what it is that we always did: Respect and enjoy Our River. In time, all will return to (our) normal. Of this, I'm certain.
