Yes, there are those of us whose intentions were, more than likely, "questionable" in the eyes of those who held the "power" and the "authority" to demolish what we enjoyed in our own manner. If this had been practised in another country, those same people would, most likely, be the first to refer to it as a kind of "ethnic cleansing". But, since our life-styles didn't meet with their "approval" (not that it was necessary in the first place), they made every possible effort to remove us. Sadly, they succeeded. There were, indeed, elements that caused more trouble than they were worth. But for the most part, there were those of us who minded our own business, conducted ourselves quietly and, when you look at it with open mind, left the area just as we'd found it... if not better. Hopefully we are not all disenfranchised and will, in time, return. Meanwhile, we can only continue to maintain the integrity of what the New York City Parks Department and the Natural Resources Group has left behind. I will always remember the wonder times and the beauty that was once there and hope that Nature will return to take back what was stolen from her.
