All I can say is WOW! It will be a cold day in heck, when I drop my young teenager off to who knows where. I'm not crossing that path yet, as my kids are still fairly young. However, I have already made it a rule in my house, if my daughter is going around the neighborhood on her bike. She has to let me know where she is at all time, be home by a given time (p.s no excuses she has a watch), and guess what, be in by the time the street light comes on. Don't laugh, I had one installed in front of my house on Marsh Hill. No excuses there now either. I was raised in a very liberal home growing up. However, I had parents that were insistent to know how, when, where, why? Bugged the heck out of me, but I knew it would be a pretty hard to trick or fool them. Hey, I got away with a little this and that, but they were firm and followed through. They also, had "expectation" for behavior for all their children. If you fell short, you knew it. It meant something to us kids to know there were limits to acceptable behavior. Lets, get real though. There are just too many people/parents out there who either don't care to know what their kids are up to, or who just don't care at all. Maybe their too concerned about Monday's proposal at work, and the second mortage on their Lake front property. Lets not forget Colombine, hey bomb making supplies in your kids room can get overlooked when he/she has it pad locked with private cypher lock and combination. Never in my house, you want privacy fine. You have to earn it, and then it's only your room in "my" house. I clean really well! The postings above are frightening. Not from the essense of "kids will be kids" partying in the woods, alcohol, drugs. Lets not wear blinders. Most kids will experiement. However, whatever happend to the check point when these kids get home. You know, let me smell your breath, look for blood shot eyes. Any hey, what about not letting them sleep in the next moring from one heck of a hangover. Rise and shine it's 7:00am and your cutting the grass today! The more serious side of this whole situation is. When these parties break up in the wee hours of the morning, who's driving? The drunk guy or gal? Or the one strung out on cocaine? heroine? oxycontine? We all know their speeding out there on these winding, country roads where telepone poles and trees jump right out at you. WAKE UP PARENTS, it's your child at risk, no necessarily someone elses. Darn it makes me angry. The best advise I got was from a parent who's children made it successful through those teenage years. This person said to me. First of all, you should always keep your kids as busy as you can from an early age. If they have activities, committments, responsibilities, then there isn't a whole lot of free time to get "lost". Also, remember to tell your children, you will always know! You are all-knowing, you will find out what, where, when and that their will be consequence to their behavior. You will be a pain in their butt! And last but not least. If those invading, food eating, loud music playing kids are at my house, then I know where my kid is!
