I don't agree that we need a new town hall, and will vote against it. I, for one want renovations too. My house is too small, has water damage, I need major renovations, but unlike the town, I can't hit up the tax payers. I have to pay out of my own pocket.

My renovations will be about 20k. I don't know why it is costing 1 million for a new town hall.

Fixing up is definately what can be done, and feasible for the middle and lower middle class in Dracut, that can not afford ANY MORE hikes! With all the 450k homes going up, I knew we were going to hike taxes as well, with Dracut now looking post and elegant, but us "hidden middle class" folks can't afford another hike. It is hard enough to pay the big water bill (thank you Mr. Meter-turner), sewer bill, etc. None of us need a new town hall. Live like the rest of us..with what you have until you can afford to move!

I work out of my basement. I have a fax, a cable modem, a scanner, a digital camera, 29" television, stereo hookup, 2 computers, 3 desks and a printer. My cost for all of this..less than 2 grand. I suggest that, if living in that building is not good enough, do like I did and work from your basement. It is a hell of alot cheaper.

Come to think of it, my basement has more than the town hall offices! Not bad!

I have 2 autistic children and one with mild CP. I agree with needing handicap access. However, please don't use that as an excuse to get posh offices. I know how much a ramp costs, and I am sure that the citizens of Dracut will pitch in and build one. Elevators or stair-chairs are a much easier renovation than a whole new building. The school teachers in the Brookside don't even have air conditioning in their rooms. To me, they deserve the renovations more than the town offices.

My rant is going wild here, but it is time for the middle class and lower middle class to say, "Enough is Enough!" and the politicians to let us take a breath from the last increase we got. Some of us can't keep up. I can't just give myself a raise, although I would love to!

My rant for the night..I entered my email above, Sharon. If you would like to schedule a chat for the Dracut Citizens online, you are welcome to use my chatroom. Email me, and I will give you the url.
