Dear Thumb, Control Tower is correct. And if one was to go to any airport one would see that all buildings around them are let's call them short. Now consider the role of the Hudson River, Mt. Beacon, the Catskills and the Shawangunks. The river is a north-south flight corridor. The mountains obstruct degrees of visibility and radar. Approach and departure elevations from Stewart must take these factors into consideration. A 20 story building in the surrounding area is asking for trouble especially in snow, fog, clouds, heavy rain.

Yes Stewart is important for commerce. Not terribly important but still. Yes more could be done to make it more attractive to passenger and freight airlines. But before you ask for that do some research. Check out how people in Queens, home of JFK and LGA airports feel about their proximity to low flying aircraft. The people of Newburgh would never put up with anything like that. Meadow Hill alone would throw fits. Montgomery too. Residents of Drury Lane. Oh wait. The already got screwed.

Bong water is probably the only thing holding this place together. Don't dip your toes in it too.
