City Council "Under Covid" Operations

City Council meetings will continue to be held BUT in closed sessions. The public are NOT allowed to participate OR to know what the CC is planning or passing. How convenient! Let's see what kind of nonsense they pull now!

State of Emergency Declared in City of Newburgh
A Statement from City Manager Joseph P. Donat

As City Manager of the City of Newburgh, I, Joseph P. Donat, exercise the authority given to me under Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law, to preserve the public safety and hereby render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of our citizens of the City of Newburgh.

Until further notice, a State of Emergency is hereby declared in the City of Newburgh effective immediately on Monday, March 16, 2020. This State of Emergency has been declared in response to the outbreak of COVID-19 commonly referred to as the novel coronavirus, which poses a potential threat to public health and safety. The coronavirus has been identified by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as a pandemic which has affected more than 100 locations internationally, including the United States. Click HERE for the COVID-19/Coronavirus Factsheet. Currently, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has identified a total of 729 positive coronavirus cases Statewide. In order to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, the City of Newburgh implements the following emergency measures and operational changes to mitigate and/or eliminate the spread/exposure of this virus across the community:

The Activity Center at 401 Washington Street is closed to the public.
All weddings at City Hall are cancelled until further notice.
All scheduled meetings of the Architectural Review Commission, Planning Board, Zoning Board, and Conservation Advisory Council are cancelled until further notice. All other committee meetings held in City buildings are cancelled until further notice.
City of Newburgh offices and worksites are closed to the public with the exception of City of Newburgh Police and Fire Department(s). Residents are strongly encouraged to contact either location by phone prior to traveling in person to either location.
In case of emergency or if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, call 911 or Fire and Police Dispatch at (845) 561-3131 [Police] (845) 562-1212 [Fire].
City Council work sessions and meetings will be held closed to the public in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order 202.1. City Council work sessions and regular meetings will be livestreamed, recorded and transcribed. (Click here for the Meeting Notice).
The following information regarding the coronavirus is provided to help protect the public health, welfare and safety of our community:

I. Symptoms

Symptoms may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure.

Symptoms may cause mild to severe respiratory symptoms such as

Cough
Fever
Trouble breathing and/or
Pneumonia
Individuals who are experiencing symptoms and may have traveled to areas of concern, or have been in contact with somebody who has traveled to these areas, should call ahead to their health care provider before seeking treatment in person.

II. Prevention

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
I hereby direct all departments and agencies of the City of Newburgh to take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property, public infrastructure, and provide such emergency assistance deemed necessary.
