Call it what you will. The message is clear and simple IMHO. The lull that every winter brings dulls minds and erases memories like summer vacation allows students to forget lessons learned in the school term. Crime decreases in cold weather. But we're looking at warmer weather soon and the elements will be taking to the streets again very soon and Newburgh will be back in the news but not as the vacation destination for family fun. When we should be going to the parks and playgrounds or visiting friends and neighbors we'll be running home before sundown and tracking our children like GPS monitors. It's just wrong. When our highest government employees admit knowing the source of our troubles and continue to decrease our law enforcement or withhold support for them the intention is very obvious. When the people sit quietly and allow the violence to continue unabated the stupidity is obvious. It can't be called fear any more. There's a faction in town that's supporting the undesireable element here making it lucrative for them to stay. If it wasn't a good environment for them they'd leave. But business is too good so they stay. They recruit our kids in school or they bring in more from outside. Somebody's providing housing for them. Somebody's turning a blind eye toward them. Meanwhile Newburgh turns into a nest of crime and violence. It becomes a matter of every man for himself to defend his home and family alone the best way he can. It's become the way of life and look where its brought us. Now another winter is turning to spring and we're thinking about more violence. When school closes this season how many kids will be joining gangs and packing guns because nothing was done to stop them and nothing is done to clean out the obvious root of the crime and violence cycle? If government refuses to do its job then maybe it's time for down home vigilanties to do the job. It looks like that's what our authorities are telling us. That's my own point of view. I hope I'll be proved wrong.
