Dear Mrs. Ewing

I would be happy to talk about the Citizens Committe and a great deal more of Newburgh's past success stories. But I reserve those discussions for people who know of them and what we talk about. We were people who had hope in Newburgh and who tried to keep our hometown happy and healthy. But today the residents are very happy with the way things are as dismal as they are. Where we were so proud of the bright history of Newburgh and the fact that it could overcome obstacles today's Newburgh takes greater pride in its violence and decay. Those of us who preferred the Newburgh that was the commercial and manufacturing center in the Hudson Valley are now too old to move out or dead. So Mrs. Ewing I suggest that you do some research in local history. The accomplished successes of Newburgh's past are well recorded in there. There is a lot to know. There is a lot that's forgotten. There's too much that nobody here has an honest interest in. Newburgh's neighbor cities have rebuilt and become lovely places because people there care and chose pride in civilized living. Newburgh chooses the opposite. Good luck in your research Mrs. Ewing. I know you will be amazed at what Newburgh used to be.
