Subject: Downing Park Planning WHAT?

I am taking a liberty here and reposting something I recently found on the other board because it deserves reading and knowing. If the person who put this comment over there has any trouble with me copying it here I really don't care. This atrocity is just needless and proof of the absolute stupidity in this cesspool city. How many years ago did somebody try to clean the park up and make that part up on the hill into some place that could be enjoyed? And who took advantage of the work efforts but St. Luke's Hospital! Who threatened to call the police and have the workers arrested for destroying public property? The Downing Park Planning Committee! When the old rose garden suddenly reappeared who knew that it was even there in the first place? Nobody. And when the DPPC put that poor old black man up in the potter's shed in the old greenhouses without heat or plumbing who turned a blind eye? Newburgh! When the work efforts, that didn't cost the city one damn cent by the way stopped, who picked up the effort and kept the place clean and enjoyable? Not one f'ing person, that's who! I could name names of the people who fought against cleaning that park up but I don't want to get banned from this board too. But I think we all know exactly who is who in this drama and I think it's time to clean up the park AND the little bunch of b's who believe that they're above the law and the Historical Preservation Society and the National Register of Landmarks and the taxpayers of this city.

Subject: DOWNING PARK

As per MHT - the CDBG administrators were approached by the big mamas who 'control' the present and future of our historic park. They asked for CDBG money to restore the greenhouses on Carpenter Ave. to create jobs, grow food for the poor, and even flowers to sell for the poor. This is fantasyland, big time!

This city first needs the DPPC mamas to clean up the actual park, decide once and for all how to deal with the decayed pergula, clean up and continue the restoration of the pond and its habitat, create a picnic area for the public in the area described in the Master Plan and in general keep the park clean and cared for, i.e. trees, cars parking under trees and on grass, garbage, graffiti, incorrectly placed gardens in decay, soccer teams beating up the lawn, etc. These ladies are being handled by a big animal that wants to be able (even though it lives in the wilds of the town) to bring back the greenhouses at all cost, which never amounted to much anyway, in terms of the actual park. The South St. split created an area cut-off, literally outside the park. It makes sense to allow this area to be upgraded for the strategic and continued use as a central spot/depot in the city for DPW within reach of their various ongoing jobs.

This is not a viable way to spend money on the needs of the citizens of this city. This is a ploy by the DPPC to be granted more credibility for a job NOT DONE WELL. The park should be turned over to a consortium of folks willing to address the Master Plan and recover the intentions of the original park, created by Olmstead and Vaux, which needs dire upgrades. This park, like others created by these architects around the country, exemplfies something very unique and special for Newburgh. Few small cities have this great asset which was developed here to memorialize Downing who was the country's early landscape architect and just happened to live in Newburgh.

The Greenhouse Goal is a mindless mistake, considering the needs of the park as a whole and the needs of the city in general. It is fueled by the craven appetite of a beast and his entourage, a weak-minded harem. We need to set a trap for this animal and discharge him to the wilds of the Dacks where he can roam freely, where his voice will create a weak echo, and where he can enter into a deep sleep.
