Subject: Reservoirs very active

Our local reservoirs were VERY active early this afternoon. Ruddy duck migration is really picking up with about 200 on Metzger and 50 on Lost Creek. Mergs are all over the place as well. About 50 common and 25 Red Breasted Mergansers were on Metzger, 20 of each on Lost Creek, and about 30 Commno Mergs were on the Twin Lakes reservoirs by the treatment plant (viewed from the entrance to the facility on Reservoir Rd).

Also of note locally, the St. Mary's Fish Hatchery has been providing good looks at Common Mergs, Buffleheads, Ruddy Ducks, Hooded Mergs, and even a Franklin's Gull the other day. The Bald Eagles on the Celina end of the lake have set up a nest on an inlet of the lake along 127, it can easily be viewed from the road side. The eggs were set to hatch Saturday, but I haven't heard whether or not they did. The new nest is close enough to provide excellent views but far enough out that the eagles shouldn't be disturbed by observers.

The owls at Killdeer Plains have started to head North with the Saw Whet not reported for several weeks now and only one Long Ear being seen recently. Duck migration is still strong there as well.
