Subject: Anyone remember these stories?

Can anyone help with this query. I'm trying to find the titles of a couple of stories that I read in high school.
I've tried looking for a database on science fiction monsters but haven't been able to find one.

Here are the stories:

The first story was based on AI and documented a couple of soldiers who were trying to kill an automated light artillery unit, and came across various weapons: tackymat - fungus type mine that digested mammals, and jumping-jack - stuff that was strung along trees. In the end, the machine wins without firing a shot. The end line was "why should I
do what time will do for me?"

The other story was about the last human on Earth to come
out of cryogenic hibernation to find himself in a planet
of machines. The plot centres around his search for any
other life on the planet, the solar system and eventually
the entire galaxy. The story ends with the Sun turning into
a red giant and the guy eventually relocating to a planet
with humanoid life evolved from plants.

Cheers,
Mike
