Subject: Brazilian Elections

Dear Editor,

It seems to me that despite the corruption and scandals facing the upcoming election in which Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is running for re-election, he will once again triumph, winning in the first round elections. Many people believe that he is a strong candidate for the job, and has proved himself a good leader while serving his first term. He has gained the support of the poor living in the northeast portion of Brazil, and has turned the focus towards gaining support of the southern portion of the country. It has been said that his “generous patronage and social programs” will be contributing factors in his victory, outweighing the scandals. He has acquired much voter support for his social programs, which more than 11 billion families benefit from. He has also been able to pay off billions of dollars in debt, and increase spending on social programs without raising taxes. He also wants to increase the minimum wage and expenditures for welfare and education.

Although he may not be the best candidate for the job, he certainly is the strongest candidate, and will most likely be elected to another term in office.
