The first enema that I can remember getting made such a life long impression on me that I can remember clearly in my mind as if it occurred just yesterday. I was 5 at the time and my sister was 7. Both of us had a bed time of 8 o'clock with no fooling around......when it was bed time, it was bed time and lights out and no talking although we would usually whisper to one another for awhile in the dark after our parents had gone downstairs.

I was already in bed one night when my sister seemed like she was taking a long time brushing her teeth and going to the bathroom. I remember getting up and wandering down the hall pushing open the partially open bathroom door. There, forever impressed in my mind, was my sister squirming while laying naked face down on the floor with a red rubber hose up her behind and my mom holding an enema bag (I did not even know what an enema was at the time) over her while my father and grandmother looked on.

I must have looked completely wide eyed with my mouth wide open as I witnessed the enema being given to my sister when my mother turned to me and said, "maybe you should be next."

I can remember so clearly laying naked on the floor as my mother parted my buns, lubing my behind, and feeling that black rubber nozzle being slowly pushed up up my bottom while my sister sat on the toilet expelling her enema. I then heard a click and immediately I felt the warm water begin to rapidly fill me up making me squirm just as I had seen my sister doing. It felt so good but yet uncomfortable if that makes any sense. When mom stopped the enema and slowly removed the nozzle while holding my buns together while my sister was still on the toilet. I desparately told her to "hurry up...I have to go so bad." In just a little while, she got done and went on to bed while I sat on the toilet greatly relieved to expel my enema.

This experience set the stage for a life long enjoyment of enemas and all those wonderful "side effects" that I came to enjoy as I matured into a young lady. I do not remember ever getting another enema from anyone while growing up, but that did not deter me to occassionally "sneak" enemas using my grandmother's two fountain syringes that hung in her closet whenever my privacy was assured. I often wonder if my parents or grandmother ever knew what was going on but think not.

Some of us received our first enema when we were too young to remember!
My sister is 10 years older than me. She says I was only a few weeks old when I got my first one. She remembers it, because she had to hold my legs while my mom gave the enema!

Amanda you and I have to be about the same age. When my children were very young an enema was the preferred remedy for colic. While they were more than a couple of weeks old if they got too much air when nursing from a bottle they would get cramps and the best way to get rid of them was with a small enema. One minute they would be a fussing unhappy baby and a few minutes later after expelling the enema they'd be fast asleep. This was not a problem with breastfed babies though.

I did not give either of mine an enema until they were already in grade school.
I breastfed!
Not 100% but I don't think my Mom did!

One odd thing about having a sibling 10 years older is that I had relatively old parents, when compared with others my age.
That was probably a factor in why my mom was so quick with the enema. She also showed considerable control freak behavior.
It was not until my sister was out of college, and I was in middle school that my bond with her really got strong, and I wanted to be like her! She had her own place, and she was the one who helped me realize how controlling my mother really was, and how to assert my independence a lot more!

I had to be 3 yo as we'd just moved into a single family house from our Manhattan appertment. It was a Saturday morning and I was dressed in shoes, sok, blue shorts and a white blouse as I sat at the kitchen table coloring a picture of a fishes with my crayola crayons. Somehow I knew I was to receive an enema and was nervous as heck in anticipation. I didn't know what an enema was but remembered the white rubber bag and hose with the black tip that had hung from the shower curtin rod back in the apartment house. I knew my age as mon had birthed my baby sister just before we moved and I was three years older. Mom had my sister out in the stroller and my dad was upstairs and finally called me to the bathroom. I was completely a flutter as I got up and slowly went to the stairs. I said to a point cause that's the very last thing that is so ingrained in my mind. The nexr memory is being back in the kitchen and my Father telling me that I yelled so loud that a policeman came to the side door. After time I took this with a grain of salt but that enema experience must have been horrendous.

The first enema experience is a memory for me and happened while staying at my grandmothers during a holiday. Usually I was given suppositories for constipation. Since I was having trouble going to the bathroom mom told me to sit on the toilet after breakfast and try to have a bm. After checking on my progress she said she would give something that would help me go. I told her I did not want a suppository and she said she was going to give me an enema which I did not know what that was. She and my grandmother came back to the bathroom with a red bag and hose and explained that an enema would clean me out. She had me lay over her lap as my grandmother held the enema bag. It was very uncomfortable and seemed to last forever! I received a few more enemas over the next few years from my grandmother and mom and learned that my grandmother was a big believer in enemas and gave them to my mom and her sister too.

Victoria, you're here because you obviously have an interest in enemas. Regarding your forst remembered enema you mention that "It was very uncomfortable and seemed to last forever! I received a few more enemas over the next few years from my grandmother and mom and learned that my grandmother was a big believer in enemas and gave them to my mom and her sister too."

What is your interest in them now?

Strange question I think! I take them for health and fun of course. And you?

Victoria, it's the same for me and I must admit it's often for the "fun" aspect and while indulging the health part never crosses my mind. Of course if I'm taking an enema to address a constipation problem, because of the condition, the first enema is rarely "fun" but the follow up ones, usualy 2, can be if taken a few hours later. ;-)

I hope my question was not offensive to you. The purpose of it was because there are some that find enemas to be degrading, intrusive and anything but enjoyable. Since you commented that your first enema "was very uncomfortable and seemed to last forever!" I was wondering if that might be the case for you and that you might be looking for others with the same feelings.

No Pru you did not offend me. I am sorry if I was short with you. Sometime the posts are a little obnoxious.

My early enemas were not enjoyable. My grandmother seemed to give large enemas which were awful. I used to have bouts of constipation and I was all too familiar with the enema bag and knowing that I was going to have one. My mom was pretty good at it I 'd say looking back and it was not unusual for her to give an enema to me or my sister when we were sick. In my early teens I began to enjoy them! Very interesting when that happened. For a brief time after that I looked forward to an enema...getting undressed and all those things.

As a mom I have given enemas for health reasons but still take them myself for pleasure and health. I even had to give my older sister enemas when she was recovering from being in the hospital. As joke I told her she owed me and one day she gave me one. Obviously we both had them from our mother and there are many memories about that!

My first enema reminds me of a many things. What an enema was I did not understand. I was watching TV and mom wanted me to come to the bathroom. I followed her and in the bathroom was a red bag with a hose hanging there. She asked me to take off my bottoms and bend over the side of the bath tub. I felt her put some vaseline in my bottom and stick the nozzle in. The rush of water surprised me and soon I was very full and had cramps. It did not feel good as Victoria said. I think I will always think of that time.

Aside from my first few enemas i remember mom giving my sister an enema! It was the first time I realized others got them too. It was morning and I got up to use the bathroom. The door was open a little bit and I heard mom talking. I pushed the door open and my sister was standing there naked and mom was holding the enema bag and telling her to bend over the tub where the towel was. It was quite a surprise to me!!

Cindy, that would be a surprise, and perhaps a thrill to you? Were you able to see any more of the procedure, like inserting the nozzle and opening the clamp?
Did you get enemas that way--naked and bending over the side of the tub? That was a familiar position for me as I got into my early teens--and I was usually naked.

The first enema I remember was at age 4 or 5. Mom sat on the closed toilet next to the bathroom sink. She used an infant bulb syringe and a solution of warm water and Ivory soap. I kicked and screamed with every insertion. I hated enemas until puberty started at about age 12. That's when I started enjoying them. At age 14, mom taught me to self-administer and I've been enjoyed every one of them. Unfortunately, my hubby isn't into it so I'm always solo. My children aged 6, 9, and 11 don't mind getting enemas as the remedy of choice for constipation.

Yes, I still remember. It was August 1984. I was 22 years old and in the hospital after being seriously injured in a cycling accident. It was very early one morning. A nurse and aide came into my room to prep me for surgery. The aide held me on my side while the nurse squeezed a Fleet enema into my behind. It was painful and awful!! I never had an enema before that. I hardly knew what they were.

You can imagine my anxiety when I was recovering at home when a visiting nurse told me I needed an enema. I cried! As it turned out, she showed me the disposable bag and tube she would be using -- not a Fleet. I was nervous at the sight of the filled bag, but as she administered the enema (with my husband assisting holding me in position) my nervousness went away. It felt good. After 25 years I still remember that experience.

Catherine...Lovely story (2nd part!). My mom is a nurse who does VNA (Visiting Nurse Asssociation) work sometimes. She involves families in home care as much as possible. This sounds like your nurse did the same. Just curious. Was your husband nervous to help? Mom jokes that men are sometimes reluctant. She can count more on wives, mothers, sisters, aunts, etc. Sounds like your husband was (is) a jewel!!

We'd been married a very short time when I was in the accident. Hubby and I joked that during my recovery that he got to explore every inch of me. We both think out of that experience, we grew closer very quickly.

You're right. He was nervous. When I got home from the hospital and met with my home nurse and her supervisor, they told my husband how important it was for him to be involved and supportive of my care. During a couple of visits, Angie (my home nurse) trained him in so many things we joked he could go to work as a nurse. Obviously, she did the medical stuff -- daily exams, IV changes, injections, etc.

She asked hubby to take and record my temperature and pulse rate at certain hours. And since my facial injuries had not yet healed, my jaw was still wired and I had been running an up-and-down fever, Angie preferred that hubby take my rectal temperature rather than under my arm.

When Angie gave me my first enema, she asked if I minded that my husband held me on my side. I was still in pain at the time and had a difficult time staying in one position. By that time, I thought, "Sure, why not...he;s seen all of me," although I was nervous that I would have an accident on the bed. Luckily, I didn't!!

Hi Catherine...I know I'm prying, but I can't resist (LOL!) After you recovered from your accident, did Hubby ever give you enemas and still take your temperature "down there"? (You don't have to answer if you don't want to!)

Yes and yes (sometimes if I'm really sick). I still feel the after effects of the accident. There are times when I need an enema and I'm not able to do it as well myself. Occasionally I get violent headaches and can't stand a thermometer under my tongue. My husband knows to take it in my bottom. This isn't "play."

First this is an interesting site! I'm 22 and am surprised that so many people had experiences with enemas and suppositories. In our house suppositories were used often. It was always if you don't have a bm you will get a suppository and I got them too. I did see a hot water bottle with a hose from time to time but was not sure what it was for. My first enema was a Saturday morning and I had been sick and missed school. My mother had finished taking my temperature and said she was going to give me an enema. I had heard the word before but thought nothing about it. Around mid morning she asked me to come to the bathroom and I saw the hot water bottle and hose hanging there. Mom had me remove my pjs and asked me to lay over the tub edge. I looked back and saw putting vaseline on a white nozzle and then she parted my bottom and asked if I was ok. After I said yes I heard a click and felt a rush of water. It was so strange and then I felt full very quickly. The water was stopped and started. It was very hard to hold and when it was over I sat on the toilet for a long time! I was 8 then and after that I was given more enemas than suppositories. My older sister knew I had an enema and she had them too. It was years later that I started to like an enema and use them now.

My first enema happened when I was 10. I had been constipated for a few days and it was hard for me to go as I told my mother. I rarely needed a laxative and if I did it was a suppository. Mom said she would give me something that would "clean me out." I did not know what that meant. Later that afternoon she went to the drug store and when she got home told me to go to my room and take off my bottoms. She came into my room with a towel and spread it out on the bed and she had a green box. She said it was an enema which works in a few minutes. I felt the tip go in and the cool liquid was squirted in. That was my first enema and it really did the job. A few months later I had my first enema from a bag.

The first enema I remember was at age four. I was lifted on top of the kitchen table and placed on my back.
Mom slid my panties off and my legs were held up by my aunt. I was nervous as I heard the gurgling sound as mom filled a small red bulb syringe from a bowl of soapy water. I felt a strange feeling as the back pipe was inserted. Then a strange feeling as the warm solution was squeezed into me. I thought the enema was over when mom withdrew the syringe only to hear the gurgling sound again.
The enema was repeated four times and I remember how full I was an the need to go to the bathroom. Finally my aunt let my legs down and mom lifted me off the table and let me run to the bathroom.
The enemas were repeated about every month. At age 9 mom gave me the enemas over her lap and used an adult syringe until I was in high school.

My earliest remembered enemas when I had to lay over mom's lap. Grandma(she lived with us) held the bag while mom inserted the enema tip and held it in while the solution was going in. When I got bigger, I had to lay over a chair, with my bedclotes pulled up and panties pulled down to my ankles. Grandmas held the bag while mom did the enema standing next to me thoughout.

I do remember one vivid memory when I was around 8 or 8 and say my bigger brother getting an enema over the chair. Grandma holding the bag up and mom was opening the clasp. She just stood there watching.

I received my first of many enemas when I was an infant. Of course I can't remember the experience, but my mom told me that she placed me on a table in the bathroom. I was on my back and she held up my legs and gave me a bulb enema. I never remembered any of the bulb enemas, but by the time I was four or so she was giving me enemas with her enema bag and an infant nozzle, When I was in grade school she started using the adult nozzle.

I gave my daughter her first enema when she was just over one year old. She, like me, had chronic constipation problems growing up and enemas were pretty common in our house. She is now married and still takes enemas, as do I. I believe that enemas are just about the best and most natural way to handle constipation problems. Too bad modern moms don't use them like my mom did and like I did.

I received my 1st enema at 4 or 5 when I had a bad cold. Mom told my it wouldnt hurt (obviously it didnt hurt when Mom received an enema) and I would feel better after the enema. She asked ny to take the enemas without fuss or crying like she had received an enema before I was born. So I did. It didnt hurt and I felt better after the enema. And family and friends were told Little Sarah had received her 1st enema like a lady - girl was I proud.
Enemaed hugs
