When I used to work on a transmission ranch, we used to put them out of their misery when they got like that. We'd lead them down to the back 40 by the shifter and put 'em down. A .45 slug thru the pump body would usually do the trick. Sometimes they'd keep kickin' and we'd hafta go to work on 'em with a sledgehammer, but they'd get put down one way or the other. It way nasty business but it was work.
