Our family will be going to Sanibel in June for our ninth visit during this time. Although hot, the brief afternoon thunderstorms are a welcome relief not to mention exciting to watch. We usually are on the beaches in the morning, touring/shopping the island in the afternoon, and back to the beach later in the day. This is a great time to visit the island - lower rates, less crowds, slower pace. Try looking into Captiva Cruises (captivacruises.com) for an evening trip. We had only one red tide experience in the past eight years. Information on red tide can be found at redtideonline.com
