I dont know if this has been mentioned or not but I think Barrons wants the BOOK because he has been cursed somehow and he needs the knowledge of the book to undo it. He has known Fiona a long time because they talk about being lovers and Barrons is still 30ish and Fiona is in her early 50's. Barrons doesnt age.
