I keep reading it over and over, and while I see the number of times he threatens to kill Mac, I also see the kind things that he does. I'll go from thinking what a horrible thing to say to Fio (about her merely 'serving his needs') to hearing him tell Mac that he was the only one willing to take her on as a student, to try to help her survive.
