Our time has passed here slowly. The children grow and are healthy and seem happy. Laura and Meg seem less so, but they have voiced no desire to leave.
I feel the walls close in tight too often, and so I leave the tower through the portal and venture forth into the villages and towns that randomly appear.
In these outings, I find that the lonliness is eased, and my blood pumps strong with the old life that seems so very far away.
At some point, I think it got into my head, that I must build a home outside of the tower, for my own sake, and for the sake of Meg and Laura whom I know need the sunlight. Lucas Jr. does as well.
I do not know what possesses me to feel compelled to use Phyrexia to my advantage. I surely cannot risk the danger to the twins or Lucas Jr. there..but it calls to me in ways I cannot prevent or predict.
Wisdom leads me to want to build elsewhere, somewhere that is safe and remote, but my attempts to find someone to aid in this have not gone well.
I have said before, and will say again, that the past has a way of coming back on you, and it has done so again in these last few weeks.
At the Goats Leg (this too is another story...a bit of dirt on the keeper has afforded me a private table and whatever else I need there), I ran into someone I thought had long since gone to the grave. Indigo's old love, Aloysius St. Claire.
He has aged, and seems to still carry so much guilt and grief for her that it hurts the eye to see it.
His drinking seems at least under control, and with so many years having passed, I hold no animosity toward him any longer.
I thought the reverse might be the case..especially after he asked me of her death. I told him. The truth..and took him to visit her grave. I do not know if it has helped to heal him or merely ripped the wound open again, but it needed to be done.
He stays here now in the tower with us. He seems to have taken a liking to both the children and sweet Meg.
Meg too, seems enamoured with him. I see no harm in it at all, though I fear that may wish to leave.
Meg is free to go however..her submission and service here has always been her choice.
