The beauty of philosophy is that there is no "right" or "wrong" answer. Trying to hit the mark with your conclusions? Well, the mark is so big and so convoluted, even if you are slightly off-topic, you will still hit the hazy area on the fringe.

COM has built up a world where politics and theology have an enormous impact on the inhabitance. Both from a perspective of coexistence of the vampires and humans as well as the eventual evolution of the vampire race.

The Vampire Chronicles seems to be a living document (even though they are written by creatures who are technically dead). The Chronicles are being written, interpreted and added to by successive generations. Recent additions should narrate current trends of philosophy and thereby soften the long dead attitudes and interpretations of earlier works. The problem here is that the Mimics from earlier times may have copped some bad press and there may not be any insight or corrective research provided by more recent contributions to the Chronicles.

This does leave COM with plenty of flexibility to take the story in any way he wishes. :-S

BTW – this is my short contribution to the discussion. I expounded onto one and a half pages worth of thoughts on the effects of evolution of politics and theology within society which included description of the whimpering passing through to bloody coup. I will only post this if you feel you want to be challenged.
