There's a museum guide talking about the earliest vampires of the species, and how the very first colonies were built and the vampire population grew from there.
Anyway, the idea for the "GFD" type of vampires was that one of the first recorded 'extras' in their history was the ability to bend light so as not to show their reflection in a mirror. The main vampire taught it to everyone in his colony as a hunting technique, and that's where the 'myth' that ALL vampires don't cast a reflection came from. (When, in reality, it was only the vampires in that particular area at that particular time)
I'll have to look it up when I get a chance, and I'll let you guys know exactly where it is. My brain is mush. :P
