Subject: I think a trilogy would be the only option for a live-action film...

Because of the sheer volume of the content I think a trilogy would be best and do a LotR style production, in terms of filming and do it all in one go. People have been saying that the actors would have to sacrifice a lot of their time, but it may not be as long as one might think. The whole of principal photography on Lord of the Rings (for the entire trilogy) took 274 days, just over 9 months. Now that is a long time for a teenager to give to a project, but I would imagine that an actor that is prepared to do some pretty intense martial arts, extremely emotional acting and kiss another boy (and more) would be the kind of person that would be committed to getting a good result no matter how long it took.

i've always thought that as a trilogy the end of the first film should be at the end of 'Renegade', when Justin has just hit Taryn and run out of the Lot. I'm just imagining a tracking shot following Justin as he runs away with a Fade to Black with a small simple font with the words 'To Be Continued'. I think it would be sweet :) I don't know where the break between the second and third films would come but in terms of the amount of content the first break comes at roughly the right place (if you're breaking GFD as a whole into thirds).

In terms of age factors and censorship, I think the majority of the explicit material would have to be removed. But that simply means that there would be no particular body parts on show; a sex scene can be done very tastefully if done right (see Neo & Trinity in Matrix Reloaded). However the age is the other issue to consider; a tasteful sex scene is all very well and good, but not when its two 14 year old boys – well, in "society's" eyes anyway, to me that sounds yummy :]. I don't think a change in the age of the characters would be acceptable because then the story looses a lot of its essence (we don't want this to become a high school drama).

Comsie, if you ever want help with a screenplay, don't hesitate to drop me a line, I'd be more than happy to help out :)
