The first time I saw it, I had only seen two teaser trailers, hadn't read any of the press on it, so I had NO idea what I was in for! I was literally blown away! Plus it came out shortly after a modern philosophy class that I was taking, so I could see a lot of the same elements in it from the readings I had to go through. So that was cool. It was like a bonus.
But, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at all if "GFD" and "The Matrix" were a lot alike. That movie had a huge impact on me.
"GFD" however, (and I may write up a 'guide' on in after the whole series is wrapped up to explain in detail) is really based on my life. Everything in the story is a metaphor or a representation of something else. 'The Beast', for example, was my struggle with suicide when I was 14. (The creature that's inside your head, using your fears and pain against you to get you to self destruct) 'Comicality' is my online personality. (Who is supposed to have the answers to everything, but still has demons of his own) All the characters in the lot are different parts of my personality, just divided. (my shy side, my withdrawn side, my romantic side, my bad temper, etc) And everything that happens is a piece of my life that I wanted to tell.
But, like I said, it's complicated. Hehehe!
Anyway, YES! Heavy Matrix influence I'm sure! LOVE that movie! :)
