Subject: GFD Question #10 - Whatever happened to the "Lost In Shadow" vampire series?

Hehehe....well....that's a long story! :P

The "Lost In Shadow" series, while a very ambitious project at first, really really DEPENDS on the contrbuting authors being as psychotic about writing as I am (And many of the other authors who signed up). ::Giggles:: And even THEN I miss deadlines by a week or two sometimes. Someone warned me ahead of time in an email that a 'round robin' story like this was EXTREMELY difficult to pull off, and they were absolutely right about everything! It was a lot harder than I was hoping it would be.

The thing about writing a story, *ANY* story, is...it's NOT easy! I know that I always say that, but it's the absolute truth. Writing a simple chapter from beginning to end takes a LOT of time, energy, effort, dedication, and persistance. It's not HALF as easy as just sitting down at a computer and putting your most intimate thoughts out there by typing it on a keyboard. It can be a really emotionally draining experience most of the time. And some of the authors that signed up had jobs, life issues, schoolwork and exams, and other responibilities that interfered with them being able to finish the chapter they signed up for in a timely fashion. Writing is hard enough by itself! God forbid you have to balance it with other things in your life that are constant distractions from your concentration and focus! One author dropped out and apologized, then another, then after the third person said they wouldn't be able to do it, I offered to write a new chapter myself to keep things moving. But as busy as I already was, and already stuck with five to ten stories of my own...that little project proved to be impossible as well. So (much to my disappointment...) the story kinda stalled and then faded away into the ether. It just couldn't be helped. Me, personally? I try to write something every single day, without fail. And I work extremely hard to make every single story you see available as soon as humanly possible. But not everybody has that amount of time to do that. Nor can they lose sleep trying to finish something that is, for lack of a better term, 'just for fun'.

I would really LOVE to see the series start up again, and it's always open to anyone who wants to tackle the storyline and add their own personal twist to it. But it's not something that can really be forced or even 'asked for', in all honesty. The muse hits when it hits. And sometimes, it doesn't hit at all. ::Shrugs:: It sucks, hehehe, but I totally understand! Because it happens to me all the time! Then again, who knows? Maybe someday it'll get a whole new audience, and you'll see the characters and the saga of "Lost In Shadow" pop up again someday! Until then, it's kind of a sleeping dragon at the moment. Waiting for another adventurer to complete the tale as he or she sees fit. :)
