TOWNSEND -- Phillip Frank Thomas II, age 39, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, Aug. 28. He was the husband of Jina A. (Del Papa) Thomas, to whom he was married for 14 years, and father of Brittany Allison Thomas.

He was born in Lowell, a son of Phillip F. Thomas of Lowell, and the late Joan (Giblin) Thomas. He was raised in Lowell, and graduated from Central Catholic High School with the class of 1989. He earned his BSBA at Fitchburg State College, and received his diploma in May 2010.

He served in the United States Marine Corps, with Sea Duty in the Mediterranean Sea during the Bosnia and Serbian War assigned to the NATO task force, and later in Haiti. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant with numerous decorations and medals. He was employed at the Sousa-Barnowski Correctional Facility in Shirley, where he had also attained the rank of Sergeant.

Besides his wife, his father and his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Brittany Allyson Thomas of Townsend; a brother, Jeffrey L. Thomas and his fiance Amie J. Searles of Lowell; step-mother Margaret (Milnes) Thomas of FL; paternal grandmother, Ella (Bernsson) Thomas of Tewksbury; mother-in-law, Joanne (Volonino) Del Papa of Chelmsford; father-in-law, Joseph Del Papa and his wife Maria of Danville, NH; brother-in-law, Joseph Del Papa and his wife Lori of Brookline NH; dear friends, Mandy and Omar Connor of Townsend; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was also nephew of the late Janet (Thomas) Hubert.

THOMAS -- of Townsend, Phillip Frank Thomas II, age 39, died Aug. 28. Relatives and friends will be received Friday morning, Sept. 3, from 9:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of Dewey and Main Sts. (Rte 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, phone (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. in St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury, followed by burial with USMC Honors in Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Brittany A. Thomas Scholarship Fund, C/O Workers Credit Union, 221 Main St., Townsend, MA 01469, will be appreciated. tewksburyfuneralhome.com
