] Date Posted: 18:05:42 01/14/11 Fri Hi - My daughter has competed in the MAO teen system and is just tired of it. She has friends who have competed in the USA system and love it. Can I get some feedback on the differences in the 2 systems? Thanks so much! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

| [> Subject: It is all about first impressions. Fast paced interview, no talent or platforms. Pretty high entry fees and few awards with money or any value unless you are the winner. | |

| [> Subject: Would those of you have have competed in USA still recommend it? Her friends who have done both systems definitely enjoyed USA more. | |

Date Posted: 16:51:27 02/06/11 Sun The USA is ALL about looks (bikini) and interview. This year every girl in the top 5 was around 5'10 I was so discouraged (even being in top 15). [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
| [> Subject: Standing 5’10” is not the deciding factor. It is about overall presentation. In teen, the judges realize the girls are still growing into their body, looks, and height. Tiny girls have won and tall girls have won Teen USA. Your daughters packaging must represent her personality, her interview should be a casual conversation with the judges. Depending on what state you are in the sponsorship could be raised or given by family. My daughter had fun and she is not 5’10”. If she is package well with a great interview, she will do very well. Order the DVD where you live and that will give you a heads up of your state’s pageant. Have fun! | |

| [> Subject: In GA this year every girl in top 5 was 5'10 or over and some far prettier girls were left behind in the top 15. It was a major disappointment. That being said, facial beauty and fitness are major factors for the Teen USA system. They seem to be going for taller girls the past two years. Im anxious to see if its a trend. Make sure your daughter spends more time on her body and wardrobe and stage presense in gown and swimsuit than she does in interview and OSQ!!! | |

| [> Subject: She is 5'9" and now has a coach who has a great "track record" in the USA system. I think she will be very helpful. I think she'll be ok in interview and osq - having come from MAO where we spent a LOT of time on that! lol | |

| [> Subject: I have to agree that USA is way more fun than America, you still get the benefit of doing the charity work but you don't have the pressure that you are under with the other. The expense of America is more to, with having to purchase a gown for evening and costume for talent. | |

| [> Subject: I think you daughter will find the USA system easy and fun. It is much less pressure. Downsides-A steep entry fee and not much in the way of prizes for anyone but the winner. Upsides-It is usually just a one or two day event which means less expenses for the family and in most states you don't have to win a local preliminary pageant in order to participate. | |

| [> Subject: Thank you to all who posted. My daughter just competed in MI and placed in the top 15. She was thrilled and is excited to do the pageant again! It was way more fun, according to her. She is done with MAO for the time being, at least until she ages out of teen in this system. | |
