Think shipping after 65 to 70 went steadily into a continuous decline after this date, as far as most members seem to recall. My first 15 to 20 years I served mostly on tramps and 2 years Articles of Agreemant. I was lucky and the longest I did was a year. Leave however if I seem to recall was about 2 weeks a year plus sundays actually spent at sea, so one was never home for very long.
