I think it had it's flaws, but I loved it anyway, although I *do* think part of that is, we haven't seen anything new since March.

I was surprised how much I liked Admiral Cain in the first twenty minutes or so, which I suppose makes it easier to understand why the crew continued to follow her.

I also really liked Kendra, and think the actress did a great job of making her sympathetic when she'd done terrible things.

While I see what you're getting at drawing a comparison between Cain shooting her XO and Lee telling Kara to complete the mission, I think there's fundamentally a world of difference between the two actions, with one falling into the category of war crime and the other horrible but necessary military decision, someone had to stay behind to destroy the ship, and I was under the impression that the responsibility would be the highest ranking officer (still on her feet, Kara reported that Kendra was down)just like how a captain is meant to go down with his ship if need be, I'm amazed at some of the 'but why didn't he just tell a marine to stay?' sentiment.

Hmm, is BSG a feminist show? That's a good question. The only thing that's really ever bothered me in terms of gender issues on the show is, I dislike the fact that while both the Adamas are athiests, Roslin and Kara are believers, but that's hugely influenced by my own athiesm. On the whole though, I appreciate that they've tried to be 'femininst' by having a woman president, female soldiers who are just as good at it as the men, and so on, but I think any text is our society is contradictory in terms of how it deals with gender. Cain and Gina is a good example, now on it's own, it's a perfectly good plot point that explains a lot, but when we add in our cultural baggage we get 'evil lesbian' stereotypes.

the other two strong females of the show, Athena and Caprica Six, are also believers.

And Baltar mostly believes in himself of course! ;- )

Oddly enough the fact that the females are believers don't bother me much. Could be because it's just so Greek, the women being basically the guardians of religion.

As for Cain/Gina, it's indeed a perfectly good plot point and I really don't understand how anyone could think otherwise. The lesbian affair didn't come from nowhere and thinking that it is just a way to be politically correct or that it is a homophobic stereotype is just forgetting everything about the show.
It made totally sense for Gina to seduce Cain, it's just what the Six did back then, it's part of their program, they infiltrated, used their incredible sex-appeal and shagged their way to the core of power in order to get access to the defense. Of course both Caprica Six and Gina got a bit too close to human beings for their own sake in the mean time.

although I'm not sure if I'd count Athena as religious to be honest, while she clearly *knows* a lot about their religion, she gave Helo a look when Hera was born and he said it was almost enough to make you believe in the cylon god which made me think she herself wasnt a believer in it.
