I just viewed the memorial list. Of our 760 graduates, I knew an inordinate number of those who have died. I was neither a jock nor an outstanding student in H.S. (I pulled it together in college and grad school), so beyond my circle of friends, I actually "knew" very few. My only real connection to mainstream student life was my working for the newspaper, the Sun Dial, my junior and senior years. Our sponsor was Ross Willard. One of our editors was De Anna Choiser, who is on the memorial list (and was, if I remember, as far back as the 20th reunion list). Distressing, because I remember her as a vivacious, beautiful, friendly, intelligent person. I also knew the Pulley twins D.K. and Aloha, and I see they've been gone a long time. The journalism skills I learned there got me through college on a work grant as the college paper editor and later served well when I sponsored our high school newspaper at Buckeye Union High School during my 32-year stint there as an English teacher.
I retired in 1996 and now teach a Bible class in our church-many of the members of which are former students who now have high school kids. On many occasions at Cracker Barrel I've talked with parent-son or daughter pairs, both of which were former students.
On the few occasions I drive up 19th Avenue I see the old light towers still standing over the field, and that concrete runway on which I spent many hours standing in ROTC.
Enough for now.
