That is extremely generous of you. Having re-read my comments, perhaps they were a little harsh and written close to midnight after what was a sweltering ordeal in the theatre, which in itself was enough to make the evening torturous. The first half, a long one as you know, was suprisingly devoid of laughter (ironic considering the title), and whilst the audience warmed up considerably in the second half I do think a lot of the potential more subtle laughs were somewhat rail roaded over. For example, I saw a production some years ago and the biggest laugh of Essendine was the deeply sarcastic 'well we can have a nice chat then' line in response to Morris near the end. I think most of the audience barely even notice this. I really liked the little physical gesture of casually blocking the door when you became aware of who was concealed in the next room but there were not enough of these moments.
There were clearly satisfied customers however. Unfortunately it didn't do it for me on this occasion in spite of the considerable effort you clearly put into the performance. I shall continue to attend productions and Bingley and shall not be avoiding ones in which you feature! Hopefully next time I shall come out smiling.
